Die zeitgenössische Musik wird oft als „New Classics“ bezeichnet. Das ist insofern richtig, wenn man dabei die Kammermusik betrachtet. Contemporary Music ist nun ähnlich strukturiert. Bei dieser Gattung finden sich ebenso Pianoimpressionen wie Trios etc. Die Aufnahmen haben allerdings den selben hochwertigen, audiophilen Charakter wie Klassik- und Jazztitel.
Windham Hill ist das führende amerikanische Label auf dem zeitgenössischen Sektor. Windham Hill führt allerdings neben Akustikimpressionen auch Jazz- oder Elektroniktitel. Künstler wie George Winston oder Andy Narell sind dabei Vorzeigemusiker. GW hat mir nach einem Konzert ein Autogramm gegeben und nach einem Gespräch sogar 2x die Hand geschüttelt !! – Nebenbei gehört ihm sogar eine eigene Plattenfirma : Dancing Cat Records.
Narada ist ähnlich positioniert wie Windham Hill. Allerdings führt Narada mittlerweile hochqualitative Worldmusik. Dazu zählt auch jede Menge Keltische Musik. Etliche Filmtitel sind ebenfalls vertreten.
American Gramaphone ist vor allem durch Mannheim Steamroller, spektakuläre Konzerte und Merchandising Products bekannt.
